Evelyn Whitmire Chambers becomes Woodstock’s first female mayor.

Walmart’s first Woodstock location opens on Highway 92 near its intersection with Main Street. The first full-time fire department is created, replacing volunteer service.

William Eugene Ogletree becomes Woodstock’s first elected African-American councilman.
