Woodstock’s first traffic light is proposed.

Trailways bus system discontinues service to Woodstock.

City mail delivery begins.  Previously, city residents and businesses had post office boxes.

Interstate 575 opens at the Highway 92 exit.

Evelyn Whitmire Chambers becomes Woodstock’s first female mayor.

Walmart’s first Woodstock location opens on Highway 92 near its intersection with Main Street. The first full-time fire department is created, replacing volunteer service.

William Eugene Ogletree becomes Woodstock’s first elected African-American councilman.
